If you root for indie bookstores anywhere, here’s your chance to support for indie booksellers across California. Independent bookstores are neighborhood sanctuaries of comfort, where an impromptu conversation across the counter about ideas, books and authors in and out of the mainstream can make your day.
The California Bookstore Day is raising donations for a one-day event designed to drive traffic (real foot traffic) to brick and mortar independent bookstores throughout the state. They are raising funds now to help make the May 3, 2014 event happen. On May 3, participating stores will be offering unique incentives to bring in customers, as organizers described on Facebook:
“For one day, and one day only, a number of very limited-edition, unique word-based items will be available to book lovers in independent stores across the state. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill signed first editions—these are literature-based art projects, unique books, and collector’s items created for this event only. You can’t get them on Amazon, you can’t get them at B&N, and you can’t get them on May 4”
